Frequently Asked Questions

  • The first session is for us to get on the same page and see if we're a good fit.

    • We'll chat about symptom history for a deeper understanding of your starting baseline.

    • We'll assess you based on what you're looking to improve and confirm what an appropriate initial treatment looks like.

    • We'll run through an appropriate initial treatment the same day.

    • We'll chat more about what a follow up plan may look like based on any immediate changes during the session.

    • I'll explain any post-session care needed and have you take notes on your experience over the next 3 days.

    • Three days after the initial session, I'll check in via email/text for feedback on how symptoms have changed since the initial treatment.

    • Once we have that information, I'll be able to confirm what the most appropriate follow up plan is at that point in time.

It's ultimately up to you if you'd like to follow the recommendations exactly as described or to show up as you are able to.

  • Your initial session will always be a single session.

After your initial session, we'll have discussed appropriate treatment plans, and you then have the option of continuing as part of a plan or by booking single sessions as we go.

    • When part of a plan, we'll pre-schedule all sessions for that month so you're guaranteed to have the times and days that you prefer. You'll be sent an invoice to fulfill within 24 hours of receiving it - with each session at a discounted rate - to lock in those times. Minimum of 4 sessions each month to pre-schedule.

    • When booking single sessions, you’ll have the flexibility to book and pay online as you go. However, session times may not be guaranteed if you are looking to book last minute so plan accordingly!

  • This depends on what you’re coming to see me for, how progressed your symptoms are and how quickly your body responds to treatment.

    • Some Orthopedic cases can be resolved in a single session if the issue is mild. Others may take 3 weeks to 3 months to completely resolve.

    • Holistic Wellness cases tend to be more frequent in the beginning and taper off. A treatment plan may start off twice a week, shift to once a week, then to once every 2-3 weeks, and eventually to booking tune ups as needed. This is to get the ball rolling in creating meaningful changes to your symptom presentation. As you improve, you don’t need care as frequently.

    • For Cosmetic Acupuncture cases, we follow a 12 week treatment cycle to allow time for change. Our skin is a living organ and also represents our inner health. If certain areas are resistant to improvement, there may be other holistic factors to address before repeating a treatment cycle.

  • themovewellclinic does not accept insurance. While treatment can be more affordable for clients through insurance, it does not cover dedicated hour-long, one-on-one attention nor does it cover all the therapeutic techniques you may need to truly get better.

By not accepting insurance, your sessions are more focused on what you actually need to get results and are less restricted by what insurance companies require in order for practitioners to be paid.

    • You can use your HSA/FSA card. Be aware that a note will often be required from a primary care physician that shows that treatment is necessary to receive reimbursement for acupuncture services.

    • themovewellclinic no longer provides super bills.

  • Most people will workout beforehand and rest afterwards since there is a high chance you will leave feeling sore and sleepy.

Of course, every body reacts a bit differently. I'd plan to rest after the first session just in case!

    • Be sure to eat something 1-2 hours before our session. This can help you avoid experiencing light-headedness or fainting.

    • Avoid caffeine 1-2 hours before our session - especially if you are needle sensitive or have a lower discomfort tolerance! It can heighten the sensation of the needles and fascial releases.

    • Wear or bring unrestricting clothes that allow access to problem areas. Loose clothing and shorts are often a good choice. Ex: Shorts for knee problems or a bra that can be unclasped for upper back issues.

  • General After-Care:

    • Plan a bit of extra time after our session. You may feel disoriented at the end of our session time so it's nice to have a moment to ground yourself before jumping back into the New York chaos.

    • Do your best to get enough sleep. Your body repairs itself during sleep and solidifies the results of the work we've done.

    • Boost your hydration with water and electrolytes. Sipping on Pedialyte is always a great bet!

Additional instructions for Acupuncture and Manual Therapies:

    • It is normal to see a bit of bruising or experience residual sensations in the areas we needled - like deep soreness or heaviness. This tends to fade within 48 hrs but may last up to a week.

    • You are allowed to do all your usual activities like exercising and going to work. However, it is possible to feel "sedated" or "off" a few hours after the session because your body is still recalibrating so give yourself time to figure out how you react. Everyone is different! Don't plan to do anything too strenuous (physically or mentally) after your first session.

    Additional instructions for MediCupping:

    • Expect to be sore! It can feel similar to the muscle soreness you experience in the days after a good workout. This should last 24-72 hrs. As you continue with sessions, this soreness will become less intense and quicker to fade as your body adapts.

    • Avoid being immersed with cold and drinking alcohol for about 24hrs immediately after our session. Cupping promotes your body's natural detoxification functions and these two things can work against that process.

    • If you have something important to wake up for, set extra alarms! It's common for patients who get medicupping done for the first time to sleep a little too well and miss their usual alarms.

    • The miscolorations from cupping typically fade within 2-4 days. Although this really can vary from 3 hrs to 3 weeks depending on the person and their baseline circulation levels. ------ Ex: Active individuals tend to have miscolorations fade faster than sedentary individuals. As you continue with cupping sessions, the miscolorations become less prominent in color and occur less because your circulation becomes more optimal.

    • Clients are able to reschedule or cancel their pre-paid appointments up to 24hrs in advance of the scheduled time.

    • It is the client’s responsibility to reschedule or cancel by managing their appointments online or communicate with Marisa to make adjustments within the appropriate time frame.

    • If appointments are canceled within 24hrs of the scheduled time, the payment credit and time slot are forfeited.

    • If appointments must be rescheduled within 24hrs of the scheduled time, they are subject to a $50 late rescheduling fee.

    • No shows are held to these policies. Packaged sessions also follow these policies. You may reschedule your session via the $50 late rescheduling fee once. After that, a new appointment must be scheduled.

    • Clients with an unpaid balance on their account may be barred from scheduling additional sessions until the balance is paid.
