Sports Acupuncture & Mobility Prehab
Who is this for?
Active individuals who are looking to rehab sports related injuries, reduce reoccurring injuries, and develop strong preventative mobility habits to stay out of pain.
Sports Acupuncture Benefits
Sports acupuncture uses fine, sterile needles placed at specific points along affected areas to release tension, regulate inflammation, and reduce musculoskeletal pain. This form of acupuncture can include triggerpoint therapy and sinew needling that is very similar to dry needling. We may apply electro-stimulation, cupping, scraping and manual myofascial releases when appropriate.
-
Support through all phases of injury rehabilitation and return to training.
-
Tune ups to keep you out of pain and moving well.
-
Supporting your injury management & athletic recovery before and after your event so you can focus on enjoying your big day!
Mobility Prehab Benefits
Mobility Prehab is my system of corrective exercise therapy that allows us to improve movement patterns and range of motion, which reduces the risk of developing pain symptoms from compensation patterns, wear-and-tear or repetitive stress injuries.
-
Pain can create engagement and coordination issues even after the tissue has healed. We can restore body awareness and control using the right exercise prescriptions.
-
Range imbalances can contribute to repetitive stress injuries that become debilitating. We can easily correct this with dedicated exercise prescriptions so you become less prone to injury in the future.
-
Whether it’s restoring your range of motion after injury or reaching your lifelong range of motion goals, we’ll help you build the range youneed to move well and age gracefully.
-
Feeling fragile doing everyday things is not a normal aging experience. Give your joints what they need to stay limber and mobile outside of sport-specific training too!
-
Learn the exercise and self-myofascial release tools that you need to manage your symptom flare ups before they snowball into a debilitating injury.
What can I expect?
This service supports athletes of all levels through all phases of injury - from managing acute pain and inflammation to rebuilding strength and connection for a confident return to your movement practice.
Along the way, we’ll address imbalances that may have contributed to your injury, give you simple exercise solutions to effectively address them on your own, and establish preventative habits and to protect you from future pain and injuries.
How to Prepare for an Appointment
Wear clothes that are easy to move
Be sure to wear clothes that allow skin access to the areas that are presenting with symptoms.
Plan a little down time after your first session
People respond to treatment differently. Some people can feel disoriented and need a moment before they return to the NYC chaos.
Eat and be well hydrated
The procedures can be relaxing but they are still stressors on the body. Be sure to fuel yourself before our sessions to prevent light-headedness or fainting.
Avoid caffeine if you are needle sensitive
Caffeine can increase your needle sensitivity and discomfort during our sessions.
Expect to be sore afterwards
You may feel sore in the areas we worked when you leave and it may continue for up to 72hrs.
Avoid alcohol 24hrs before and after your session for best results
Processing alcohol slows your body’s response to treatments.
Post Session Care
Plan for a good night’s sleep
Your body repairs itself as you sleep so make sure you support your healing with a a good night’s sleep.
Be mindful at the gym
You may be feeling really good! Try not to do anything outside your usual routine or over exert yourself in the first 48hrs. Your body is still recovering even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Avoid cold immersions
Cold therapies can slow your micro-circulation for hours after the fact and slow the healing process.
Your cupping marks will fade!
The cupping marks can have some staying power the first time you get it done. These tend to fade within hours or up to a week. As you get cupping regularly done, the micro-circulation improves and those marks will fade away faster or not form at all.
Remember to do your exercises homework
Exercises are instructions on how your tissue changes. They’ll prolong the treatment results too!
You may have a flare up or new symptoms
Treatments can “jumpstart” the immune response and trigger a flare up of current symptoms before they start to improve or trigger new symptoms to appear while the familiar ones fade. This is quite normal! Feel free to reach out to marisa@themovewellclinic.com if you have concerns or questions about your experience.
